In 2014 I unexpectedly had the chance to sell my business. I had never thought about what was next, what was beyond my business. It happened within months, and soon I had a huge check and time to do some things I always wanted to do. And it was great for a while; then reality set in. I was 58 years old, hopefully with a lot of life ahead of me and no real plan for what was next. What’s the difference between a coach and a consultant?
It’s a great question as sometimes the lines between the two can be blurred. A consultant is generally hired to examine your business and tell you what’s wrong with it or where it could be better. They are paid to be right! A coach, on the other hand, realizes the client and their staff are the experts in their field and especially their company. The true expertise of a coach is coaching the process of getting you from where you are to where you want to be.
How can you coach me if you don’t know anything about my business?
Far and away this is the biggest concern of potential clients. At its core, business is business. We all have similar issues. One of the biggest values a coach brings to the table is a fresh set of eyes and ears.
Are you certified?
Yes, I am a certified professional coach. I completed my certification in 2017 but I have been involved in coaching since 2010.
How long does it take?
I know it sounds like “coach speak” but it really does depend on the issue and most importantly the client. The client’s openness, and willingness to do the work, will be the biggest factor in how long it takes.
How long is a coaching session?
The first session is complimentary and is by far the longest session. Moving forward the average session is 45 to 60 minutes.
Do you use assessments like DISC or Meyers Briggs?
The short answer is no. I am investigating a couple and may add it in the future, but presently it is not part of what I offer.
What is the cost?
Quite simply I do not have an hourly rate. Pricing is generally based on client type, how they wish to be coached and sometimes the issue. This information is gathered during the complimentary session and cost can be determined shortly thereafter.
